My friends won both games at the pond hockey tournament today, keeping themselves in contention for the golden shovel. They have to win both games tomorrow as well in order to make the finals on Sunday.
The first game was very, very close. The other team started off strong and took a 5-3 lead in the first half. The boys in flannel were scared and more than a little nervous. A quick pep talk at half time fired them up, though, and their youthful energy proved to be more than the older opponents could handle. They went on a 3-0 streak and held their lead for the last minute and half to win the game, 6-5.
I told them not to let the next game be that close, since my voice was just about shot. They complied. Within the first 20 seconds of play it was obvious that the opponents were at a much different skill level than the flannel boys, and not in a favorable way. My team won the game, 18-1.
The action starts up again tomorrow at 9:30. 'Night!
